Happy New Year!
Well, I survived the year and I survived the challenge of this blog. 365 photos on 365 days, and no cheating!
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed taking the photos (most of the time). Thank you all, especially the friends and family who supported me throughout 2010, who have guided me, been there for me and made it the year that it was.
Please take a moment to check out the photos of the year and comment/vote on your favourite!
Roll on 2011!

Reindeer
The wrapping season is not yet over, as today we prepared to visit my family down in Cheltenham tomorrow. The reindeer gift tags are lined up and prepared, not just for the presents tomorrow, but in readiness for next year’s presents. Those are the best intentions, but I wonder if we’ll actually remember about these next year or just buy new ones?

Poinsettia
Today was all about relaxing – the kids were away, and the day’s plan consisted of nothing. A plan that was very successfully followed.
The photo is last-minute and unimaginative (almost literally as it’s timed at 11:58!), but the poinsettia reminds us that it’s OK to have a day like that, as it’s still Christmas season.

Hephaestus
Today we went to the RSPCA animal rescue centre in Derby. Since Bonnie died we made the decision that we would go to the rescue centre to investigate the possiblility of potentially adopting a cat that needs a home some time in the future, and agreed to make the first tentative steps in that direction today.
We returned from the shelter having put our names down for two new cats! Meet Hephaestus – he and his mother were strays, and although the other kittens in his litter have had homes found for them, they were brought into the shelter needing a new home. Hephaestus, and his equally adorable mother Hestia, will be joining us in the new year. It goes without saying that we won’t be keeping those names, but we certainly intend keeping both cats for many years to come!

Halfway up the stairs
No, not a small green nephew of a famous frog, but a large pile of unopened chocolate (and it’s not the full pile either). It can only be Boxing Day …

Wrapping
This evening was devoted to just one activity – wrapping. I’ve never had small children in my immediate family before, and never realised quite how many presents there are to wrap. To be fair, the clue was probably in the direct correlation with the very large number of presents we’ve bought for them over recent weeks and months.
But, in a strange way, I enjoyed the wrapping marathon and hope to enjoy watching all the good work being undone two days from now. And there’s a certain amount of satisfaction in getting it all done one day earlier than necessary!

Me want!
I may be 38 years old, but I still get excited when I see Cookie Monster T-shirts – this photo I took turned out to be the only one I took today. It’s not unheard of for people to pay tribute to the heroes in their life by emblazoning their image on a T-shirt though – here’s one of mine.
It won’t surprise many of you to learn that I’m now wearing it. You can never have too many Cookie Monster T-shirts …

Cards
It’s just gone 11pm the day before last posting day for first class cards. The cards are finally done, the daily photo isn’t … well, you know the rest.
I’m not always organised enough to send cards every year anyway, but this time we’ve both at least got round (finally) to sending to closest friends and extended family. But there may be some surprising news for some recipients, a change in address and more. But you know all that. You’ve been following this blog since January 1st 2010 haven’t you …?

Tim Minchin
Today was a great end to the week – the photo is of course Tim Minchin performing with a symphony orchestra behind him, as seen from our great seats in the Nottingham Arena. So nice for Claire and me just to spend a night out by ourselves and watch a genius of wordplay and music at work. If he’s your kind of thing and you ever get a chance to see him, just do it, you won’t be disappointed!

RIP Bonnie
A really sad day today to end a tough week. In the wee small hours of this morning, we lost Bonnie, who passed away peacefully and quickly. We knew it was coming, but he has been a companion for Claire, James and Sophie for many years (he was seventeen when he died) and I felt incredibly close to him too despite knowing him for a much shorter time. He had two favourite places – one is right here on the sofa in this photo, and the other one was on my lap. It seems strange already not having him around, and we’ll all miss him. But his time had come, and, as cats always do, he knew it himself just as we did.
